I’d Rather Be Writing

by | Sep 6, 2014 | Encouragement, personal journey

I really should be cleaning. But I’d rather be writing.

So, guess what?? I’m writing.

It’s a beautiful September day here. A mild 73 degree, sunshiny day.

College football is on the t.v. in our living room as I sit next to our open deck door at our dining room table.

I just got off the phone with my BFFL (Best Friend For Life), Tina. I needed that 1 hour 15 minute time away with her through my cell phone. Life, school, work, our kids, the future, her wedding anniversary today… you name it, we probably talked about it. I love it when we can pick right up where we left off last time.

And we’ll do the same next time.

I should be cleaning. I should be thinking about dinner. I should be doing laundry.

Goodness, we have company (my brother and family) coming over in two hours. I’ll do some mad cleaning soon. Anyone else do that too?? Clean quickly before company comes over??

If they walked in the door right now, this is what they’d see.

shoes in entry way edited**GASP!** Those who live in perfect, up-kept homes will judge me, but that’s okay. My brother and his family wouldn’t. They love us anyway. I’m thankful they accept us for who we are, shoes in the entry way and all. (Those will be picked up by the time they get here, however.)

We all need people like that, don’t we? Who just love us no matter what our house looks like, or our flower beds, or our piles of laundry in the laundry room??

Do I give anyone hope here today??

So as I “should be” doing other things, the thing I want to do the most is what I enjoy the most. Writing. (Besides spending time with the three who make up my family.)

What’s the thing you enjoy the most? I’d love to read it below.Life is too short to not be doing what we love to do. I'd rather be writing.

Life is too short to not be doing what we love to do.

May you make time to do that very thing today!

Happy Saturday, friends!

Julie

I love to watch my grandchildren. Not like ‘oh, I’m watching my grandkids today ‘ but I love to really ‘watch’ them. See their expressions, their interactions, watch their minds and eyes and legs and arms work. I like to really watch them! Watch them love, and spat, and eat, and beg, and fuss. All of it. Today we have all four of them….and it is quite the entertainment! Happy Saturday to you and yours…from Mason City 🙂

I love spending time at home with my daughter. I’m a bit of a home body and we do simple things. Sometimes it is watching tv. Sometimes I’m doing what I do on the computer and she’s on the sofa playing guitar, or in the next room playing piano. Sometimes were are reading simultaneously. But always when we are together it is comfortable and easy and there always times of laughter. Sometimes it a laughter where you have tears rolling and you can’t even speak if you wanted to, other times it is just giggles. She is 16 and still likes me enough to enjoy this kind of time too. The time is limited, as she will leave for college in a couple of years. Because the time is limited, I sometimes ignore the cleaning, laundry, etc. that I think needs to done.

This is wonderful! I love this and how you and your daughter spend this beautiful time together. Good for you for ignoring the cleaning, laundry, etc. when spending time with her is much more important. You “get it.” I’m with you. My son’s a senior in high school this year. You better believe I’m spending each moment I can with him. I appreciate you stopping in and sharing what you enjoy doing the most right now. Blessings on your Sunday!

Hi Julie. My passion is learning. I love to learn! My interest has no limitations as far as categories which has lead me on some interesting adventures of learning. I agree with you that too often people don’t place enough value on what they “enjoy” & talk themselves out of delegating time to it. I believe that “within” the things we enjoy are treasures from God. Thank you for sharing a great reminder.

Hi Jule! “…within the things we enjoy are treasures from God.” I love that insight! I believe the same. Thank you for sharing what you enjoy, and I can only imagine all the adventures you’ve been on in doing so! I sure appreciate you sharing here today. Have a blessed day!
