Trusting in the Lord

Jeremiah 17:5-8
This is what the LORD says:

Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.

But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Today’s scripture verse on my blog from Biblegateweay.com (Jeremiah 17:7-8) spoke to me this morning.  I thought I would share it in my post for today.  But, before I did, I was drawn to ready all of chapter 17 in Jeremiah.  I plugged it in to Biblegateway.com and before me on my laptop screen were God’s words given to Jeremiah about Judah and Jerusalem and it’s people and their relationship with God.  I found this to coincide with some of what I’m learning in Isaiah in Bible Study Fellowship this year.

When God uses someone in the Bible to share His Words, and He starts it with saying, “This is what the Lord says,” we should pay attention.  Even though these words were written for the people of Judah, they are still applicable to us today.

Verses 5-8 made me stop and pause.  I had already read 7 & 8 on my blog, but by adding verses 5 & 6 beforehand, it put everything into perspective for me.  Who do I honestly put my trust in???  Man or God?  Cursed is the one who trusts in man?  No thank you!  I don’t want to be cursed…I want to be blessed!

Ever since the middle of last week, I’ve been confronted with and reminded of scripture verses that talk about trusting in the Lord or trusting in God, especially Proverbs 3:5-6. From past experience, I’d say God is trying to get my attention.  He’s asking me and prompting me to trust in Him, more than ever before.  So, I am.  I am trusting Him as I walk with Him, throughout my day to day activities.  God is on the move in my life again!  This morning I can honestly say I’m excited to see where we will go together, and where He will lead me!

Who do YOU trust in?  Man or God?  I pray God is speaking to you today through this passage of scripture as well!

But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
