Loving God & Loving Others…

by | Sep 22, 2008 | God, love

If you’ve visited my blog prior to last week, then you’ve noticed I’ve changed it a little. I made it simpler to read, and changed the name.

I have struggled with the “Living a Life that Honors God” name (it’s former name) for quite some time. I strive to live a life that honors God every day, but since I’m no where near perfect, I fail at living up to that name. A previous post titled, “I Can’t Live Up To The Name!” tells of my struggle there. I also couldn’t cling onto something tangible with the former name. I felt like I needed something to “claim” for myself.

After listening to a sermon given by Pastor Mel Ramos at Mission of Hope earlier this month, a light bulb went off in my head. He talked about loving God and loving others, and how when we live out Matthew 22:36-40, God is pleased and everything else follows after that. So, to simplify…that’s what I changed the name to! I can claim this verse! The Message translation reads:

One of the religious scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?”
Jesus said, ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside of it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
Loving God and loving others. How different our world, our homes, our workplaces, our schools, our neighborhoods, etc. would be if we all had those two things as our focus! I encourage you to love God and love others in your life today! Make a difference!
Blessings,
Julie
