The Simple Joys of Life

by | May 16, 2014 | Encouragement

Is it bad when I climb in bed at night I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and have my first cup of coffee right away???

I think it might be.

Such was the case last night. And most nights.

Call me strange, but coffee brings me joy.

I love everything about it. The aroma as it’s brewing. My first sip, all the way to my last. The warmth on a chilly morning. Enjoying it in my favorite cup. Everything.

I’m sure some would not agree with me, and some might even try to tell me how bad the caffeine is for me. And they might be right. But I usually have one to two cups in the morning and maybe one later in the day. Moderation, right?

Did I mention how much my coffee brings me joy???

I hope we all have something in our lives that brings us joy, that lightens our load, that adds a lift to our step. Like my coffee does.

If you could name that one thing, what is yours? Do you care to share it? I’d love to read below what simple thing brings you joy.

May we never take for granted the simple things in life! And may we take a moment to thank God for them today!

Do I have to narrow it down to one? So many simple things bring me joy. Hot tea, the quiet of an early morning, music, and a drive in my convertible on a bright, sunny day. And yes, I do realize I didn’t even mention my family in this list, of course they too bring me joy! 🙂 Thanks for this post, I already feel better.

I love your list, Tracy! I’d love a drive in my convertible too if I had one! Love that! Thank you for sharing your joys today. May God bless you in each one of them. On to my second cup of coffee… 🙂

Ha-ha! Tracy’s comment was exactly what I was thinking–only one?! Precious quiet mornings with the Lord, long walks and talks with my husband, sitting on the patio listening to the birds sing, chatting with my sisters, and did I mention coffee?

Great list! I enjoy all of those things too, Sabra. Except I don’t have any sisters. 🙂 And a fellow coffee lover! Those quiet mornings with the Lord are certainly precious. So glad you shared these with me today!

Ha-ha! Of course you do! I only have one biological sister, but I have thousands in Christ!

Ah, you’re speaking to my heart! I prep my coffee maker before bed so I can have that first cup ready when I get up to write. My office just switched to some really cheap, nasty coffee and I’ve been brooding about losing that little cup of joy at work. But, it’s making me look for other things at work to find joy in – like the pictures of my kids on my desk.

A fellow sister coffee lover! Love it! But cheap, nasty coffee is a joy-robber. Good for you for finding other things at work to find joy in! I imagine the pictures of your kids keep you smiling too. Thank you for sharing, Kathryn. Have a blessed day!
