Giving Our Words Wings

by | Jun 7, 2014 | Encouragement, Love Others

“Ooh, I like her skirt.”

“She did such a nice job singing the National Anthem.”

“The flowers in their front yard are beautiful.”

“I sure like her lip color.”

“That man was so friendly helping me pick out the tool I needed.”

How often thoughts like these about others flutter through my mind. I compliment and encourage people in this head of mine all the time.

But all too often, those words stay there, and never make it out of my mouth. Hence, the people who those words are for never get to hear them.

It’s good to compliment and encourage others. And oftentimes our compliments are the encouragement someone needs!

But if those who they are intended for never get to hear them, what’s the point?

God’s Word says we are to extend encouragement to one another. I appreciate the truth of 1 Thessalonians 5:11…

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up,
just as in fact you are doing.

The words of encouragement in my head need to make it out of my mouth.

Am I alone over here? Am I the only one who does this?

Pay close attention to your thoughts. If you think something positive about someone, something encouraging, something that will brighten their day, let those words come out of your mouth so that specific someone hears them.

I did this all day on Thursday. I was pleasantly surprised of the reactions I received. And let me tell you.. it felt good to give those words wings!!

There is someone in your life and in mine today who needs to hear those words that are fluttering around in our heads.

They may just be the very words that will make all the difference in his or her day.

Would you pray with me?

Father God, there is none like You. Thank You for the specific times You send Your encouragement in my life to help me keep on keeping on. Father, I come to You today, asking You to give me awareness to those around me who need a word encouragement. Allow me to be Your tool to encourage others who need it this day. May the words You give me not remain in my head, but come out of my mouth to ultimately give You glory and to encourage those who hear them. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Much love to you this day!
Julie

You are absolutely not alone. This was convicting because I know often those words of encouragement remain in my head. Thank you for this beautiful reminder to give our words wings. I think I shall join you in doing this. Blessings.

I caught myself again last evening thinking compliments of people, but not saying them. I think I do this even more than I realize! Beth, I’m glad we’ll be focusing on this together! Have a great Sunday!
