Snow (Ice) Day #5

by | Jan 20, 2010 | family, just for fun, winter

Today is the fifth day school has been cancelled due to the weather this winter.   Last year we had six days…and we are closing in on that number very quickly!

Freezing rain is falling today…I can hear it hitting the windows of our home.  I was up at my normal time…had my office time, my quiet time, and my coffee time.  As I was getting ready for my day in our bathroom, with just five minutes until I was to wake up Ali and Zach, the school cancellations were announced over the radio.  Sure enough, ours was on the list.  What???  Nothing was falling from the sky at that point, so I didn’t even think to check news websites about cancellations.  I stopped doing what I was doing, I turned off the radio and the bathroom light, I came downstairs and made another cup of coffee, and slipped back into my office.  I also whispered a quiet, “Thank you” to God. 🙂  I could use a day at home today!

Ali and Zach slept in…they both seem to need more sleep these days.  I have breakfast pizza in the oven.  (By the way, if you’ve never had a Palermo’s breakfast pizza, you have to try one! They are incredible! Sold at Hy-Vee or Fareway…Fareway is less expensive usually.)  My plan is to get caught up on house stuff today, get my workout in later, and spend time with Ali and Zach.  Bill worked last night, so he’s sound asleep.  I already have dinner in the fridge, which I prepared ahead of time on Monday, so I don’t need to think about dinner tonight, except for just getting it in the oven later.

Just when I need a day to slow down, it seems like God gives me one.  I am thankful and grateful, and I look forward to enjoying the day at home (even though I’m realizing Ali and Zach will be going to school through the middle of June)! 🙂
