God is stirring my heart…again.
My family and I have taken some time away from our normal day to day activities for a few days. As we decided to do so, I grabbed a book, which had been sitting on my desk for some time that my friend Betty let me borrow, to read in my “downtime.” I started it on Monday and finished it yesterday, and that is pretty phenomenal for me, as I’m not a fast reader by any means.
There are few books that I’ve read that have changed me, and I’ve read two of them this summer…Fields of the Fatherless, and this book, Same Kind of Different as Me. I firmly believe God has used this book as confirmation to me that He has me right where He wants me, and He’s not done with me in His work at Mission of Hope. I’m excited and a little nervous…all at the same time as I look for what God is going to do next.
A few thoughts stated in the book by Denver, one of the co-authors who tells his story of slavery, homelessness and his life, has stuck in my head…
…”When you is precious to God, you become important to Satan.”
…”Our limitation is God’s opportunity. When you get all the way to the end of your rope and there ain’t nothin you can do, that’s when God takes over.”
…”You’d be surprised what you can learn talkin to homeless people.”
…”Nothin ever really ends that somethin new don’t begin.”
…”…in a way, we is all homeless…”
and probably the one that has stuck with me the most…
…”Then just get out of the way and let God do His thing!”
As I take the next few days to process, ponder, pray, write and think, I’ll be ready to see where God leads me, and excited to see what He’s going to do. God is stirring my heart…again, and I’m going to get out of His way and let Him do His thing!
