It’s A Good News Kind Of Day

by | Jun 20, 2016 | Good News

Today is a good news kind of day!

No, I didn’t win the lottery, or strike it rich.

I wasn’t called up into the big leagues, and no, I haven’t gotten published yet.

I didn’t win anything, nor did I find something I lost.

I didn’t tackle a big feat, and I didn’t accomplish anything monumental.

I didn’t even receive any knock-my-socks-off news.

Good news kind of day

It’s a good news kind of day, because we lived it.

And we still are, because the day’s not yet over.

I look at all the good I’ve experienced already in this day, and I am humbly blessed and grateful…

I lived. I loved. I smiled. I walked. I read. I listened. I wrote. I breathed. I prayed. I encouraged. I laughed. I ate. I hugged. I exercised. I drove. I sang. I did laundry. I watered my flowers. I pet our farm cats. I cleaned windows. I worked. I rested.

What amazing gifts each of these things are! How precious each one is!

For years I took days like today for granted. I lived for the big days, the big moments, the big accomplishments. Everything else seemed insignificant. Nothing small was worth celebrating.

My perspective has changed, however. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older. Maybe it’s because I see life through different eyes… eyes that are more grateful, and appreciative. Maybe it’s because I’m focusing on making the most of every moment of every day.

There’s so much bad stuff in this world. So many things that can weigh us down, especially as of late it seems. If we focus on those things too long, we can find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, in despair, and discouraged.

Let’s focus on the good news.

Good news makes you feel better. Your happiness will show in your eyes. Proverbs 15:30 NCV

So, friend, what good news have you experienced in this day? What victories and successes (big or small) have you achieved? What special moments were you able to appreciate? How did God bless you? What were you able to be thankful for, that no one else might understand? What good news have you received?

What makes this day a good news kind of day for you?

Sometimes it’s the small good news that means the most. I remember as a young mom, getting dressed some days was an accomplishment. I can remember days of celebrating that our car started that morning. And not so long ago, I celebrated the simple and precious fact that our family was healthy in that moment.

What’s your good news today? I’d love to read about it below.

Sharing our good news encourages each other.

Good news from a faraway place is like a cool drink when you are tired. Proverbs 25:25 NCV

Thank you for stopping by and for your presence here today. You are a treasured gift. I thank God for you!

Blessings,

Julie

Such a great post, Julie. It’s true – there’s much to appreciate in the everyday moments. Today I was glad for the beautiful sky while I drove, the fluffy clouds, for health, for time alone. I loved being able to stop at the store to pick up fresh fruit & vegetables to enjoy. Each small & mundane task made me grateful for where I am today. Blessings!

Julie, it was so fun to read this and be reminded to be grateful for the little things, those ordinary moments on ordinary days. One of my good news is the light-hearted moments that my husband and I enjoyed with our children this evening. After dinner (instead of reviewing for their tests) they decided to teach us how to do a popular dance. It might have been their way of getting out of review but it really was a special bonding time for the four of us. It’s little things like that that make life so special! Thanks for this beautiful reminder!

It’s a good news day because I am able to get out of bed, drink clean water, exercise even though I don’t want to, and go to work. My kids are happy and healthy, my grands are adorable, and my parents are still with me. I am loved beyond measure by our Father. Not much more I can ask for, right? 🙂 Great post, Julie!
