For years, Julie didn’t give much thought to what she ate. Then came different diets, calorie counting, restriction, and trying to fit into a certain size.
Today, she looks at food very differently.
In this episode of Encouragement for Real Life, Julie continues the Healthy, Whole, and Well series by sharing why she now pays attention to what she puts in her body.
This isn’t about eating perfectly. And it isn’t about telling you how you should eat. Julie isn’t a nutritionist. She’s simply sharing what she has learned through her own health journey and the changes she has made along the way.
She’s also learned that sometimes the most important thing is to pay attention.
One of the biggest changes has been learning to see food as nourishment. Food gives our bodies what they need to move, think, sleep, recover, and live our everyday lives. Instead of only asking what food might do to our appearance, Julie encourages us to consider what it does for our health.
Julie shares how she began reading ingredient labels and gradually changed the foods she brought into her home. She also talks honestly about sweets, eating out, and the reality that she doesn’t make the healthiest choice every time.
And that’s okay. One meal doesn’t make us healthy or unhealthy. Our regular patterns matter more.
Being intentional isn’t the same as being obsessive. We can pay attention without striving for perfection or feeling guilty about what we eat.
Julie shares simple ways to begin. Read one label. Add something nourishing to a meal. Notice how certain foods make you feel. Ask why you’re making a particular food choice.
And through it all, remember the words of 1 Corinthians 10:31: whether we eat or drink, we can do it all for the glory of God.
