What does it actually mean to be well?
Is it eating healthy foods? Exercising regularly? Getting enough sleep? Or maybe reaching a certain number on the scale?
Those things can matter. But being well is about so much more.
In this episode of Encouragement for Real Life, Julie begins a new September series called Healthy, Whole, and Well. She shares why our health affects nearly every part of our everyday lives. It affects our energy, sleep, relationships, thoughts, and even how we experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us.
Julie also gets personal about her own health journey. There was a time when she was extremely physically fit, yet she wasn’t truly well. Her physical health had become too important. Other areas of her life suffered because of it.
That’s why this conversation goes beyond food and exercise.
What does it mean to be well?
Being whole means recognizing that our physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual health are connected. When one area is neglected, it can affect everything else.
Drawing from 1 Timothy 4:8, Julie shares an important distinction between obsessing over our health and caring for our health. God isn’t asking us to obsess. He invites us to care for what He has given us. It’s an act of stewardship.
So instead of trying to change everything, Julie offers one simple invitation this week: notice.
How are you doing physically? Mentally? Emotionally? Relationally? Spiritually?
Don’t judge yourself. Don’t overhaul your life. Just pay attention.
Being well doesn’t mean everything in life is going well. It’s an ongoing practice of caring for the whole life God has entrusted to us—mind, body, heart, relationships, and soul.
