Mom Would Be Proud!

by | May 14, 2012 | Personal memories, This Lefe Family

Mother’s Day is a bittersweet day for me.

I love being a mom to Ali and Zach. God has given me such a gift in being their mom. Today is a day I get to celebrate that. My family spoils me each year. I woke up to flowers on the kitchen table, a gift on the dining room table, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, dinner out after church, more gifts this afternoon, and wonderful memories made with them today.

Today is also a day I miss my mom. It’s hard to believe she’s been gone five years. As I talked about her this morning in front of everyone at our Worship Service at Mission of Hope, I again couldn’t help shed tears. The void she left in my heart still remains.

As I sat outside on our back deck this afternoon finishing up my BSF Bible study lesson, I was enjoying the beautiful weather. I was also enjoying the scenery around me. And what I saw, Mom would be proud of…

It was the first time this spring I was able to sit back and really soak in the beauty of our flower beds. I have been working in them diligently for a few weeks now, and finished them up this past week. Ahhhh…filled with Mom’s hostas, Mom’s irises, Mom’s lilies, and many other perennials of hers. Mom would be proud! How fitting to enjoy Mom’s flowers, especially on this Mother’s Day!

It was a beautiful day. I’m thankful this evening for all the blessings God has given to me…especially my family. I wrote on Ali & Zach’s facebook walls this afternoon what was on my heart. I’m truly grateful for them….

“To Ali and Zachary…the most special and amazing teenagers I know. I want you to know today, on this Mother’s Day, how very much I love you and how much I consider being your mom a great honor and the best gift. I know it may seem at times that I’m “the strictest mom,” and that I may see things differently than how you and your friends see things. But please remember, I love you… more than you understand and I only want God’s best for you. When I became your mom, I committed to raising you in a way that would honor God out of thankfulness to Him for giving me you. God has big plans for your lives, and I can’t wait to see them all unfold! I will always be your biggest fan, your loudest cheerleader (ok-Dad might be louder), and your most supportive coach. I love you to the moon and back (and yes, I still have eyes in the back of my head)! 🙂 Thanks for making this Mother’s Day so special! Love, Mom

I pray your Mother’s Day was blessed. Thanks for being a part of my life!
