Merry Christmas!

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:10-11

Merry Christmas!

The days are gone of our children waking up at the crack of dawn to see if Santa had arrived and left gifts for them under the Christmas tree.  It would take just a few minutes for them to come in our bedroom and wake Bill and I up with their excitement of their finds.  It’s after 8:15 on Christmas morning…Ali and Zach are still sound asleep in their beds.

Even though things have changed as they have gotten older, Christmas morning is still just as exciting to me.  It’s different, but still exciting.  We’ll open up presents whenever they emerge from their rooms.  I still enjoy watching them open gifts, even though they have picked some of them out and know some of what they are getting.  I love giving gifts.  That’s just me.  And I love receiving them too!

We’ll spend the rest of the day at home together as a family.  Cinnamon rolls for breakfast, then we’ll make a big meal, and will enjoy some of our favorite dishes later on today.  Tonight we might drive around and take in some Christmas lights.

As I sit here in our living room with my coffee beside me, enjoying this Christmas morning, I’m so very thankful God sent His very own son to earth in the form of a baby to save the world, and to save me.  I can’t imagine what Christmas would be like if I hadn’t embraced this truth.  It would be empty and peace-less.  Even though I do love the presents and some of the other traditions Christmas brings, nothing is more important than what Jesus did for me.  Because of His birth, His life, His death and His resurrection, I will be able to spend eternity in my heavenly home with Him.  I won’t have to taste eternal condemnation.  And I will be reunited with those who have gone before me.  For this, I am completely thankful.

May this Christmas be a joy-filled, Christ-filled Christmas for you and those you love!  Merry Christmas!

Julie
