Giving Thanks – Days 11 & 12

by | Nov 13, 2010 | fall, Steve, thankfulness

Thursday was Veteran’s Day. I’m so thankful for the men and women who have served our country and who are doing so today.  My dad was one of those men who served.  He was a mechanic in the Army.  Our friend Steve who passed away last year, was also one of those men (picture above).  Steve was an active Veteran who loved his country and wanted to celebrate Veterans in any way he could. Gosh, I miss Steve!

I wasn’t able to attend the Veteran’s program at my nephews’ and niece’s school this year, which always touches my heart.  But in our own way at Mission of Hope, we celebrated our Veterans.  At lunchtime we asked all of our Veterans to come up to the front of the lunch line, and we applauded them as they walked up to the front.  I saw tears in some of their eyes, smiles on their faces, and some were very serious-looking…knowing they each remember how they served in their own special ways.  It was wonderful to honor and appreciate them.  How very thankful I am for each of them!

Yesterday I was reminded how very thankful I am for the fall weather we’ve had.  It has been a beautiful fall…beautiful colors, warmer weather, and lots of sunshine.  That changed yesterday…colder weather and rainy, and now since Daylight Savings Time has ended, it’s getting darker so much earlier now.  Winter is certainly on it’s way.  And as I write this, it’s in the 30’s today.  I’m thankful autumn has lasted as long as it has, and I pray the snow doesn’t arrive anytime soon!  🙂
