A Word And Goals for 2020 – What Are Yours?

by | Jan 4, 2020 | #open2020

Here we are, already, on the fourth day of 2020. How can this be? In my mind it should still be September 2019. But, time continues to speed by me, no matter how hard I try to slow it down. Also, doesn’t is sound strange to say the year is 2020? I’m not used to it yet, but give me a few weeks and I’m sure I’ll get there.

It’s a new year with new opportunities, maybe with new goals, and possibly a new perspective. I began this year with a fresh hope and with fresh goals and with a renewed mindset. I’m ready for a great 2020!

For a number of years now, I’ve chosen one word at the beginning of my year. This word is one I carry with me all year long. It tends to keep me focused. It has a way of comforting me and grounding me when I need it. And it never fails, I see God use it in many ways to bless me and grow me throughout the year.

Friend, is this something you do?

Do you choose a word for the year? Do you set new year’s resolutions or goals? Have you set some for 2020?

A Word and Goals for 2020 - What Are Yours?

My past words have been:

2014 – JOURNEY
2015 – IMPACT
2016 – BELIEVE
2017 – LIVE
2018 – ADVENTURE
2019 – REVIVE

I shared in yesterday’s post how my 2019 word, REVIVE, impacted me last year, and I promised in today’s post I would share my 2020 word. This word came to me in November, and I knew it was the one. I’ve never chosen one so early, but without a doubt, this word clung to me like how peanut butter clings to the roof of your mouth. I just knew this was it. Especially after seeing it pop up everywhere. And, I mean everywhere! In my Instagram feed, in Facebook posts, in the grocery store, at restaurants, in books I was reading. It was crazy!

So here goes!

My word for 2020 is OPEN.

Open - word for 2020

To have an OPEN heart,
OPEN hands,
and an OPEN life.

To be OPEN to new possibilities, new opportunities, and new experiences. (Even if they are out of my comfort zone.)

To be OPEN to God’s transforming work in my life to be the woman He wants me to be. (Even if it’s uncomfortable and difficult.)

To be OPEN to give of my time, my talents, my treasure. (Even when I don’t feel like it.)

And, to live an OPEN life, for God’s glory, for the good of others, and for my growth.

Be generous with me and I’ll live a full life; not for a minute will I take my eyes off your road. Open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders.

Psalm 119:17-18 MSG

I’m excited about OPEN as my word for this year.

Yes, it will likely play out in ways I don’t expect, and it’s likely God will use it in ways I can’t fathom now. But, I look forward to being open to all He has for me this year.

I’ve also set some personal goals for 2020:

  • to write daily
  • to grow our BYOB and B events
  • adding new features on my website
  • for January – intentionally walking/running for 75 miles in the month (as of today I’m down to 63 miles left since January 1)
  • to run a 5K this year
  • to begin a professional service through my ministry
  • cross off another state or two (or more) from our 50 states tandem bike list (what state should we cross off next?)

So, what’s your word for 2020? Have you set some goals for yourself?

I’d love to read about your word and your goals below, and I’d love to cheer you on in them today and throughout the year! It’s an honor to journey alongside of you in this life.

I’ll keep you posted on my word OPEN as the year progresses, and you may see me using #open2020 as this year’s hashtag on social media. I’m also documenting my 75-mile goal this month on my Instagram stories. I welcome your presence to help me stay accountable! (Because it’s only January 4, and I already felt like quitting this morning!)

Happy 2020 friend! Let’s live out 1 Thessalonians 5:11 this year as we encourage one another and build each other up. God bless you!

Much love,

I love your 2020 word! Open. I can’t wait to hear about it throughout your year! My 2020 word is Devote, with scripture verse: “Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God.” 1 Chronicles 22:19

Kim, I love your word! Absolutely love it. Such a powerful verse to go along with it. I’m excited to see how God will use that in your life this year. Praying for you today!
