194. Washing Windows When Your Perspective Becomes Cloudy

by | Apr 22, 2025 | Podcast

Today we continue in our Spring Cleaning for the Soul series. We’ve discussed clearing out the cobwebs, dusting off weariness, and decluttering our hearts so far in this series. Today we’re looking at what to do when your perspective becomes cloudy. Have you ever tried to enjoy a view through a dirty window, windshield, or eye glasses? Itโ€™s frustratingโ€”you know thereโ€™s beauty on the other side, but the smudges and streaks get in the way. Sometimes our inner perspective becomes just like that windowโ€”clouded, distorted, and in need of a good cleaning. When our perspective gets fogged with discouragement, disappointment, or negative thinking, we stop seeing life clearlyโ€”and often, we stop seeing God clearly too. It’s time to get out the cleaning cloths and do some window washing!

Not so long ago I was scrolling through Instagram, and I came across another woman doing something similar to what I doโ€”but it looked like she was doing it better. More polished, more popular, moreโ€ฆ everything. My heart sank. I started doubting my own calling, feeling behind, and questioning my value. But the truth was, my perspective had shifted to comparison instead of contentment. I had to pause and ask God to help me see my own journey through His eyes again.

I needed to wash my windows. Maybe you do, too?

Some signs you might need to wash your windows to see life more through God’s eyes than your own:

Youโ€™re stuck in negative or critical thinking.
You find yourself assuming the worstโ€”about others, yourself, or even God.
Youโ€™re overwhelmed by circumstances and canโ€™t see hope.
Youโ€™re discouraged because youโ€™re focused on whatโ€™s missing instead of whatโ€™s present.

Just like a window gets dirty over time without us noticing, our perspective can too. We go through life, doing what we do, not paying any attention to our perspective. Sometimes it takes a little soul spring cleaning to realize just how foggy itโ€™s become. Has yours become a little foggy, too?

When your perspective becomes cloudy, get out the cleaning cloths.

We look at what clouds our perspective, what we can do to clean it (to wash our windows), and how God desires for us to see clearly.

Whatโ€™s one area in your life where your view has felt foggy or distorted? This week, ask God to help you clean that window so you can see His truth more clearly.

Thanks for tuning in today. Spring cleaning is good for the soul–in more ways than one! God bless you!
