Today I am thanking God for my friends. God has truly blessed me with and surrounded me with wonderful people that I have the privilege of calling friends! Some have been my friends for over 30 years, and some have been my friends for just a few months. Some have seen me at my absolute worst, and know everything about me, and some only know bits and pieces of my life. Either way, I am so grateful and thankful for all of them.
My friend Mary gave me a book on friendship a few years ago. I read through some of it today, and this touched me. The book is called, “The Blessing of Friendship” by Karla Dornacher. This is just one small part that spoke to me…
“Have you ever tried to find the ‘perfect’ gift to give a special friend?
You want her to know how much you care, so you are willing to shop
till you drop to find it!
To give the perfect gift you must first know the heart of your friend.
It needs to fit who she is…
her personality, her style, her season of life!
Because God already knows your heart, your friends are His perfect gift to you.
He knows the need for a proper fit!
Consider for a moment the friendships you’ve enjoyed.
Every one has been unique, no two alike.
Each one was chosen with great care, by God, especially for you!
We may sometimes even wonder at God’s choice,
but He knows us and our needs better than we know ourselves.
He gives us friends, not only for our own blessing,
but to teach us to be better blessing-givers.
May we rejoice in the goodness of the greatest Gift-Giver of all
and in the gifts of friendship we’ve been given.”
I do give God all the glory for the people He has chosen to be my friends! I can’t imagine my life without each of them. So, friends, I thank God for you today! Thank you for speaking into my life, encouraging me, loving me, helping me, blessing me and also being real with me when I needed it most. I am a much better person because you are in my life! Thank you!
