Welcome to week 6 of the Summer of Abundance series on the Encouragement for Real Life Podcast. So far we’ve explored the first five element of abundant living: 1) Identity in Christ, 2) Renewed Mindset, 3) Intimacy with God, 4) Spiritual Surrender, and last week’s Purposeful Presence. Today we’re focusing on something that might seem simple—but is actually deeply transformative: Joyful Gratitude. Because gratitude doesn’t just change our perspective—it changes our entire experience of life. No wonder it’s our sixth element of abundant life, and no wonder God instructs us to have grateful hearts!

My husband, Bill, tends to see the glass half-full. He generally has a positive outlook on life and rarely ever complains. Along with his uplifting attitude, he has a grateful heart. He wakes up grateful, stays that way through the day, and is still grateful when he lays his head on his pillow at night. Gratitude is just a part of who he is and lives out every day. And I don’t think he even tries to. It’s just Bill Lefebure.
Who in your life is like this? He or she doesn’t take anything or anyone for granted, instead, gratitude permeates every part life. This person’s words, and actions, and the way he or she lives everyday displays gratefulness. Maybe that person is you.
It’s easy to go through our days focused on what’s missing, hard, or frustrating. I catch myself doing it more than I care to admit. And in our culture, is sometimes seems as if gratitude often gets reduced to something seasonal (Thanksgiving) or superficial (“just be thankful!”) or to a t-shirt that reads, “Grateful, thankful, blessed.” But true, joyful gratitude is a spiritual practice—a way of seeing life through the lens of God’s goodness, even in the hard places.
Friend, gratitude changes everything.
Eckart Tolle once said, “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” I couldn’t agree more.
Joyful Gratitude is our fifth element of abundant life. Gratitude doesn’t ignore reality—it reframes it. It reminds us who God is, what He’s done, and that He is still good. No matter what. This is abundant life.

Gratitude doesn’t change your circumstances—it changes you in the midst of them.
Gratitude may not fix the hard thing, but it will reframe it.
Yes, Gratitude is how we live abundantly even when life feels anything but abundant.
