Sleeping Soundly

We have a new “resident” in our home…it’s an ADT Security System.

With the rash of break-ins lately in this area, it has been a little unsettling for our family.  If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you’ll recall we had a few things stolen from us late summer/early fall.  Many times I would leave our home and wonder if I would find it just the way I left it when I returned.  When we would take trips, it would always be in the back of my mind if our home was safe.  Not that we have lots of valuables in our home, or that it’s an expensive home, but the thought of being broken into really made me very uneasy.

After talking to one of our neighbors who had been broken into WHILE SHE WAS HOME recently–and her alarm system scared the person away–we decided not to mess around any longer.  I called ADT that day, and within a few days, our security system was installed.

It has taken us a little getting used to this…turning it off when I get up in the morning.  Turning it off when we arrive home.  Turning it on when we leave, etc.  But we’ve gotten used to it, and have gotten the hang of it.

The other night when we went to bed, I was able to completely relax for the first night in many nights.  I didn’t have to worry about the sounds I heard outside like I used to.  No more “What was that?”  “Should I get up and check that noise out?”  “Should I wake up Bill?”  I am now able to sleep soundly.

I didn’t realize how concerned I was about all of this, until that night.  But now I no longer think about our home being safe when we leave.  I just know it is, 24 hours a day.  This is one of the best things we could have done for the safety of our family!  We have been very pleased so far.  And now I pray the alarm never goes off!  But if it does, I know we’ll be attended to within a matter of minutes.  I’m very thankful for that!

I’m off to a good night’s sleep! 🙂
