RAGBRAI 2017 – Update 4

by | Jul 25, 2017 | #live2017

What day is it? I asked Bill that question this morning. I seriously had no idea.

The days run into each other on RAGBRAI, and sometimes I have to think when I recall a certain circumstance, did that happen earlier today or was that yesterday? I appreciate living life as it comes on this ride.

We traveled 55 miles today, most if it into the wind. At one point we were pounding it out on the pedals and I asked Bill how fast we were going according to the speedometer. We were traveling a whopping 12 mph. What?? Normally our cruising speed is 18. That’s how much the wind slowed us down.

But, one can make RAGBRAI as fun or as miserable as one wants. We chose to continue to have fun, to meet new people, and to enjoy each town’s uniquenesses. Even with the wind and warm temperatures and breaking my sunglasses.

We ran into friends, old and new. We ate food we normally don’t. We enjoyed conversing with locals in each town. All were happy to have us in for the day.

Tonight we’re tired in Clear Lake. Physically and mentally. We need a good night’s sleep. The wind from today is absent and the humidity has escalated. I’m currently sitting in front of my battery-powered fan trying to keep from breaking out in a sweat in our tent. Rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. I pray it misses us. We would welcome your prayers for the same. No matter what, though, we’ll do our best to continue to choose to have fun.

Hope your week is going well! I’ll update again soon!
