When It’s Time To Listen To Different Words

by | Mar 8, 2016 | Love God

There are days when the world tells us terrible things.

Things like…

“You are just a number.”

“You matter to no one.”

“No one wants you.”

“You aren’t important.”

“Your life is a waste.”

“You can’t make a difference.”

Friend, I know because I hear them too. Somedays it’s a fight to not listen to them. Somedays are harder than others to push them away.

The words you hear may be different than mine, but we each hear some.

The words may come from different sources, but it’s easy to see who is behind them. The enemy of our souls is pretty crafty. He knows what buttons to push. He knows when we’re weary and tired and stressed. He knows right when to whisper such words in our ears, when we least expect it, and when we’ve let our guards down.

When we hear these destructive words often enough, we can begin to believe them. And when we do, discouragement and devastation begin to grow roots… before we even realize they are growing.

When the roots are established, it’s much more difficult to cut them out of our lives.

Friend, before the roots set in deep, let me remind you, the words you have heard are nothing but lies. Complete and total lies.

There are different words we can cling to…

God made you incredibly special.

God has big plans and blessings for your life.

God loves you.

And you matter to Him. Yes, you matter to the One who created the heavens and the earth. You matter to the One who created you.

His Words are the ones we can trust. His Words are the ones that matter. His Words are truth and life.

We can believe different words… the ones God tells us.

God's Words are a light to our pathWhen we open His Book, we become filled, encouraged, blessed, and strengthened. Today is a good day to dig into His Words, to open our hearts, and to be changed by them.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

I’d say it’s time to listen to different Words.

Friend, will you pray with me?

Father God, we come to you today in humble adoration. Thank you for loving us and for making each one of us as someone special in Your eyes. Father, we could all use your touch today. We could all use some encouragement. Some of us are disheartened by untrue words we’ve believed about ourselves. Some of us could use a reminder of who we are in You. Lord, would you speak to us in ways we can understand through your Spirit, through your Word, or through another this very day? We need you, Lord. And we love you so very much. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

You are wonderful and precious. In God’s sight and also in mine!

Thank you for journeying alongside of me today.

Much love,

Julie

I’ve started carrying scripture memory cards in my coat pocket so that in quiet moments I can fill my brain with truth, or remind myself of words that I know but that I don’t have the wisdom to draw from FIRST. It does seem that my mind goes to negative thoughts first. Thanks for encouraging us to be intentional about choosing where our thoughts rest.

Amen! The steady stream of words that flow in and out of our brain each day can be very negative. The amazing thing to me is how often I hear those words and start believing them. God has not chosen those words for me and I know this when I am intentional about spending time in His word. God says, you are loved, you are beautiful and you are mine over and over. That is is the set of words on want on repeat in my brain each day. Thank you Julie!

Joining you from #IntentionalTuesday today and thankful for that! I have been listening to lies and putting off continuing with a project close to my heart. I KNOW they are lies and I KNOW I am meant to pursue but sometimes we just need someone to remind us WHO to listen to 🙂 Thank you <3

Yes, Sara. We do sometimes need that reminder of WHO to listen to. So glad we can encourage each other as we journey through life together. Hopefully one day we’ll get to meet in person! Blessings to you today.

I spent many of my teenage years letting the words of the world define who I was, but it is truly amazing how a heart can be transformed when we choose to let GOD’S WORD define who we are. His truth breaks all chains! Great post, Julie!
