210. Summer of Abundance Week 8: You Are Not Meant to Run on Empty

by | Aug 12, 2025 | Podcast

I’m glad you’re joining me here in week 8 of our Summer of Abundance series! Today’s element takes wellness further in honoring God with every part of us: Healthy Rhythms. How is the pace of your life? Is it full of hurry and hustle or is it more about pace and peace? We weren’t created to run at full speed all the time. In fact, part of living an abundant life means learning to live in rhythm—God’s rhythm. Today we’re exploring what healthy rhythms look like and why they matter for our peace, purpose, and presence. We are not meant to run on empty.

Summer of Abundance Week 8: You Are Not Meant to Run on Empty

Running on empty. It’s not only a song by Jackson Brown from 1977, it’s also not a fun pace of life. Yet so many women are operating in this manner, day in and day out. They are doing “all the things” but still feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and spiritually dry. Maybe that’s because our culture glorifies hustle. They’re like cars sputtering with their gas light on, blinking, chiming, telling them they need fuel.

But the lies drown out the warning.

“If I stop, I’ll fall behind.”

“I’m the only one who can do this.”

“Rest is lazy.”

“I’ll rest when everything is done” (which never happens).

What comes next?

Maybe you’ve been there. I have, and I don’t care to return. That place is burnout.

Irritability or numbness. Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix. Disconnection from God or others. Lack of joy, purpose, or peace. Physical symptoms: headaches, insomnia, lack of energy, mood swings, etc.

You don’t have to look to far to see how our culture glorifies hustle, but God invites us to pace. We weren’t made to grind—we were made to grow. And growth requires rhythm. We often think of rhythms as routines—but biblical rhythms are more than checklists. They’re sacred patterns that allow us to live full, free, and faithful lives.

Friend, we were never meant to run on empty.

Healthy rhythms don’t make life perfect—but they do make it sustainable and sacred. You were made to live full, not frantic.

I invite you back next week, as we discuss contentment—and how to know when enough really is enough. I look forward to continuing our journey together in living the abundant life Jesus came to give us.
