When You Question, “Does God Really Love Me?”

by | Jan 16, 2020 | Bring Your Own Bible and Beverage, Love God

I’m guessing at some point in your life you’ve wondered or questioned, “Does God really love me?” Maybe, quite possibly, you’re questioning that now.

  • You’ve done what you never said you’d do, and you just know you’ve let God down. Does God really love me?
  • You feel like you aren’t a “good enough” person because you keep messing up. Does God really love me?
  • You felt God nudging you to do something specific, but you didn’t follow through. Does God really love me?
  • It’s been months, maybe years, since you prayed a prayer or gone to church. Does God really love me?
  • Life’s circumstances are difficult for you, yet it appears the lives of others are flourishing. Does God really love me?

Living in this broken world, we have a million reasons to question God’s love and if it’s real. But, laying all that aside, in the quiet of our hearts, it’s a question that longs for an answer. It’s a question that begs for the truth.

When You Question, "Does God Really Love Me?"

“Does God really love me?”

I grew up in a home where I was taught that God loved me. So, I carried that truth with me for as far back as I can recall. But, when a situation above presented itself not so long ago in my life, I needed to confirm what I believed was actually true. God, do you love me, really? Do you love me like I’ve been taught?

So, I did some digging. I chose not to ask people, because I knew I’d get mixed messages. I wanted to know the truth, not an answer based on someone’s perception or feelings. So, I opened my Bible and I did a word search on the word LOVE. Below is some of what I found.

6 Bible Verses that Prove God Loves You and Me

God loves us so much He protects us.

God, your love is so precious! You protect people in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 36:7 NCV

God loves us so much He forgives us and delights in showing us love.

Is there any other God like You, who forgives evil and passes over the transgressions done by Yours who remain? He does not hold onto His anger forever because He delights in showing love and kindness.

Micah 7:18 VOICE

God loves us so much His love will never quit on us.

(Read all of Psalm 136 to really understand how God’s love never quits on us.)

Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits.
Thank the God of all gods, His love never quits.
Thank the Lord of all lords. His love never quits.

Psalm 136:1-3 MSG

God loves us so much He gave us His Spirit.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Romans 5:5 NLT

God loves us so much He gave up His only Son for us so that we may live.

God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.

John 3:16 CEV

God loves us so much that nothing can separate us from His love.

I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can separate us. Not even the highest places or the lowest, or anything else in all creation can separate us. Nothing at all can ever separate us from God’s love. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.

Romans 8:38-39 NIRV

And this one may have impacted me the most:

God loves us so much and is asking us to let Him love us!

I have loved you just as my Father has loved you. So let me love you always.

John 15:9 WE

Will we let Him love us?? That about took my breath away.

Friend, yes, God really does loves us!

No matter what we’ve done or haven’t done. No matter what we say or don’t say. He loves us no matter what this world throws at us, no matter what others do, no matter our past, present or future. God makes it very clear the love He has for each one of us. Will we live in His love today?

The next time you question if God really loves you, pull out these verses and remind yourself of truth. Yes, my friend, He does!

Thank you for these verses. I must battle my insecurities about being worthy of God’s love and believing His love never ends. I know both of these to be true in my head but my little girl heart, that was broken by my earthly father, struggles. You would think at 60 years old I’d be over it! I’m so grateful that God continues to show me what’s true and one of the ways is through others like you, Julie! Thanks again for sharing your wise words.
