You Are More Than You Think You Are

by | Apr 29, 2017 | Five Minute Friday

I’m just a mom.

I’m just a wife.

I am nobody special.

Ever thought or said similar statements?

I’ve been known to categorize myself in boxes. In one box I am a mom. In another, I’m a wife. Yet, in separate others, I’m a writer, a follower of Jesus, a sister, a friend, an employee, an encourager.

If someone asked to describe yourself today, what would you say? Take a moment to think about what your answer would be.

Maybe you’d think of a couple of your own boxes, or maybe you would describe yourself by what you do or what you like.

The thing is, though, you and I are not just one or two things. We aren’t even a handful of titles or qualities. And, we aren’t even what we or others might say we are.

We are more than we think we are.

When we combine all the categories–or boxes–we may put ourselves in, they produce a greater picture of who we are. But, we are still more than that.

You and I were created in God’s image. That’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

God created us uniquely, filled with wonder and awe. He didn’t miss one detail.

He loves us completely, no matter what we have or have not done.

And, God will never leave our side.

These aren’t just words to make us feel better for a moment, they are God’s truths for you and me to live in daily.

You are more… so much more.

And, if you’re ever tempted, like me, to allow the negative boxes to define you–failure, mistake-maker, loner, unworthy, or any others–remind yourself of the above truths.

Yes, you are more than you think you are!

You are a child of the living God, and His plans are good for you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Eternal, “plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hope—never forget that. Jeremiah 29:11 (VOICE)

May we never, ever forget this.

May you and I live in the “more” today and every day.

Much love,

Julie

I’m linking up with the Five Minute Friday community (on a Saturday). It’s been weeks, maybe months since I’ve hung out with them at Kate’s place, and I miss them! We free-write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. This week the word was MORE. I thought we could all use the reminder that we are more than we think we are. (I wrote for seven minutes, and it took a few extra minutes to look up the scriptures and create the image.) The writing isn’t perfect, but the activity grows me each time. Stop on over to Kate’s place and check out the writings of some of the most amazing people on the planet!

I declare I am deeply loved, divinely appointed, abundantly equipped and profoundly cherished by God. No enemy plan, scheme or obstacle can keep me from God’s highest and best will for me. As I follow the voice of my Savior, I see the invisible, I accomplish the impossible and I love the unlovable. I am a living-breathing miracle because Jesus Christ lives in me!

Yes, you’re continuing to put one foot in front of the other. You, too, are more than you think you are, Andrew. God is being glorified through every step you take for Him. Thanks for sharing your steps with me over here. Continuing to pray for you, Andrew.

See, I would think that Christian wives and moms would now their worth, since the church world is built around grooming women for the domestic. It saddens me to see that even the wives and moms can be made to feel just as worthless and dehumanized as a single woman. Really sad.

Shannon, thanks for coming by today. Yes, Christian people can still struggle with their worth. I’ve done my share of struggling, as a mom and a wife and a woman, but I always come back to land on truth… God’s truth. And I want to remind others to do the same. May we each rest in who we are in Him. Bless you!
