Why Do We Keep the Stuff We Don’t Use???

How about this for a sight?

No, I don’t have young children playing in my cupboards any more, and no we haven’t had any sort of disaster in our kitchen.

I AM DECLUTTERING!

For the last few weeks, I have been on a mission to completely declutter our home. Pulling everything out of cupboards, closets, and off shelves. Going through drawers, cabinets and anything that stores anything.

–If it doesn’t bring us joy, or if we don’t use it, we’re not keeping it.–

This was my last cupboard in our kitchen. Half of the things in there we haven’t used in years.

Why do we keep stuff we don’t use??
Why do I have so many pans??
Why did we ever purchase a “sandwich maker?”

I have no idea.

Now, I’d like to clarify… we haven’t been living in a pigsty. I keep a pretty clean house, especially lately since I’ve had a little more time on my hands. But what’s been hiding behind doors and on shelves–that really only the four of us ever sees–has been eating at me. So, I decided to do something about it. Room by room.

I am becoming very aware that we have more things in this house than we will ever need or use. And it’s the best feeling to get rid of the excess.

Everything is becoming organized and in it’s proper place.

And the junk drawer is gone! (Hallelujah!!)

And another great thing–and I never thought I’d say this–I haven’t purchased one thing for our home or for myself since Christmas. I don’t intend to add to the excess.

Consider joining me in this mission to declutter. Don’t do it all at once. That’ll get overwhelming and we’ll just get upset. (We have enough stuff in our day that happens to try to upset us. Decluttering our home shouldn’t be one of them.)

Start small with a drawer. Or a cupboard. I believe you’ll experience a feeling of relief and satisfaction with each step you make. You might just find yourself enjoying it so much, that you want to keep going… like I have!

I’ll keep you posted on my progress! Happy decluttering!

Julie

Congratulations on so much progress! I took a week vacation from work last summer and did some major decluttering and it was the best, most freeing feeling! Maybe I’ll get started on the next round now.
