What’s Special About An Every-Day Kind Of Day?

by | Apr 19, 2016 | Love God, personal journey

It’s a normal, every day kind of day.

At least it is in our corner of the world. At this moment anyway.

There’s nothing exciting going on. Nothing new. Nothing out of the ordinary. There’s nothing happening that’s “worth writing home about.”

In fact, some might be bored with life around here today.

But, you know? I’m quite okay with an every day kind of day.

It’s in days like today I get to embrace the little, the insignificant, the mundane. At least it may appear as such. What I’ve found, however, these “little” things are really the big things.

The “little” in life is what ends up being big.

Normal, every day kind of day moments like making breakfast and going to work. Simple daily tasks such as folding laundry and mopping the floor. Routine times of doing the same thing you did yesterday. Sure, they may seem like nothing special, but friend, nothing could be further from the truth.

These are the special occasions real life is made of. These are the blessings that fill ordinary days. And, these are the times God’s whispers are present.

Truth be told, there’s nothing mundane about living life. There’s nothing monotonous, or boring, or “un-special” about your life or mine. Even on the “nothing to write home about” days. Each and every single day is a gift. Each minute we’re given is something precious. Every single breath we take is nothing short of a miracle.

Yet, all too often we are looking for the larger-than-life moments.

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Embrace the every day kind of days.

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 NLT

So, what’s so special about an every day kind of day?

Everything!

Because the Lord designed it, and what He makes is extraordinary and excellent and beautiful.

I pray we choose to embrace the every day kind of day, and may we live each moment in thankfulness, appreciation, and wonder!

God bless you, friend!

Thank you for this reminder that I needed today when I didn’t want to cook dinner and do dishes after being at work. Joining you from RaRaLinkup, Testimony Tuesday, Tell His Story, and Intentional Tuesday today. I obviously needed to read your insights.

I love every day kind of days. This morning I did laundry, and tidied, and wrote, and took care of business. There was no fanfare, but it was entirely satisfying even much more than my most productive out-in-the-world kind of days. You are so right – every day is a gift and after having lived through some crazy ones – I’ll take the every day ordinary any day!

Whether we like it or not, the will of God for our lives is lived out in the mundane details of every day faithfulness. Thanks for this boost for your readers to enter into our lives — the Romans 12 going-to-work-walking-around-life that Eugene Peterson speaks of — for the glory of God!

I chaf at the quotidian at times, but as I get older, I’m just thankful that I’m around to participate! Occasionally I bust out and do crazy things, just to make sure I don’t stagnate.

You are so right, Julie. What I recall most of our grown children are the little things in our days as they were growing up that we barely noticed back then. That is also true where my parents are concerned. Both are at home with the Lord now, but there are hundreds of little ordinary day things I recall that are priceless and precious to me. Happy to be visiting you as your neighbor at #Rah Rah Linkup.
