5 Ways To Keep A Positive Perspective

by | Feb 24, 2016 | personal journey

You find the dog chewed another shoe.

You can’t locate your car keys, and you should have backed out of the driveway five minutes ago.

You realize after arriving at the grocery store, you left your wallet on the kitchen table.

Some days it’s nearly impossible to keep a positive perspective.

Life happens. We all know that too well. Often for me, it’s the little, dippy things that rob me of my joy. It’s the trivial that threatens my positive outlook.

Spilling coffee on my white pants on the way to work.

The car decides it’s not going to start.

I mess up something I really worked hard at.

But these things are nothing compared to what some are walking through.

Fighting cancer.

The death of a loved one.

Divorce and disaster.

Keeping a positive perspective can be hard. Plain and simple.

Yesterday we already established living life with a positive perspective is much more pleasant than with a negative one. So, how do we maintain a positive outlook, even through the tough stuff? We’ve all witnessed those who are facing excruciating circumstances, and yet they seem to be the most positive people around. How can they continue to be a bright light in what appears to be dark circumstances??

I have some thoughts.

5 Ways To Keep A Positive Perspective

1 – Pray.

I can’t on my own stay positive. I just can’t. When life throws me a curve ball, the only way I can keep positive is by asking God for help in doing so.

2 – Be Thankful.

it’s nearly impossible to be negative and thankful at the same time. We each have much to be thankful for. Make a list of everything you can think of, and read it daily. When our children were young we would end the day together with prayer time and we’d share our “thankfuls.” This helped us end our day on a positive note.

3 – Read God’s Word.

There’s nothing more transforming than opening up the Bible and soaking in the very Words of God. One of my favorites for keeping a positive perspective is Philippians 4:8…

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.

4 – Encourage another.

Something amazing happens when we turn our focus from ourselves and put it on others. Lifting another lifts our perspective.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT

5 – Celebrate and live.

Celebrate every good thing in your life. Praise God for it all, and determine to live a joy-filled life.

Celebrate always, pray constantly, and give thanks to God no matter what circumstances you find yourself in. (This is God’s will for all of you in Jesus the Anointed.) 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 VOICE

Friend, what do you do to keep a positive perspective? I’d love to read your thoughts below.

Choosing to keep a positive perspective not only helps us, but it will impact others, and will glorify God.

Blessings to you,

Julie

Great post and list, Julie. Excellent prescription!

    I’d add two thoughts…

    1) Try to keep a project going that’s close to your heart, and ‘touch’ it every day. Even if the progress you make is miniscule, it’s still progress.

    2) Do something you’re good at and enjoy every day. A small success can make a difference far out of proportion to its size.

Ooh, good additions, Andrew. I might have to add them and change the post to 7 Ways instead. I appreciate your words here, friend, and continue to pray for you.

Love all five, Julie, but especially 3 and 4. It’s amazing what happens when we fix our eyes on anything but ourselves. Encouragement from God and encouraging others…breaks up a pity party quickly. Thanks, friend.
