Have You Found Yourself In Worry Lately?

by | Sep 12, 2017 | Love God

There’s been much to worry about lately.

Hurricanes. Wild fires. Wars and rumors of wars. Unrest in our country and in the world. Sickness and disease. New schedules and life-turned-upside-down events. And to top it all off, a credit bureau data breach that affects millions.

Yikes! Yes, there has been much to worry about lately. I’m not condoning this activity, though. Really, I’m not. Consciously I know worry is useless. It works us up, it causes stress, and it can literally shut us down. (Many of us know this from experience.) I also know how God desires us to let go of it, as He has much to say about worry in His Word.

But, friend, I gotta tell you.

I’ve done my fair share of worrying lately.

Especially at the end of my day yesterday.

With my head on my pillow, desiring desperately to fall asleep, my mind swirled around all of the above. Not just once, but multiple times. You can imagine how sleep escaped me with so much filing my mind. It took me hours before I drifted off to dreamland. It was awful. Worry consumed me to the point of tears.

Ever been there? Have you ever allowed it to overwhelm you, to flood your rational thinking to the point it makes your stomach churn and your eyes teary? If you have, you understand how awful worry is.

Worry is a consuming and awful activity.

Take a look at it’s definition: to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret

Those words alone should prevent us from entertaining such thoughts. Who wants to torment oneself? But, sometimes we just can’t help it. We worry when we don’t know what’s going to happen. We worry when we lose what was once familiar. And we worry about things we have no control over. At least I do.

In all my swirling worry last night, God reminded me of a power truth that calmed my heart and settled my thoughts. I pray it does the same for you if you’re caught the rush of worry today.

So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time. Matthew 6:34 TLB

Matthew 6:34 Do not worry.

It’s interesting how worry can blur what we know to be true, isn’t it? It’s a good day to be reminded of Who’s in charge and Who will take care of us.

When we look back we can see how God has taken care of us in the past, and we can trust He’ll take care of us today and in the future. He will work out what we cannot, and He won’t leave us as He does. God is faithful!

So, the next time we get caught in worry’s web, I pray we’re reminded to not be anxious, but to give it to God and let Him handle it. Let’s hand over our anxious thoughts to the One Who can handle them. He’s got everything under control.

May we rest in Him tonight and every night. Sweet dreams, my friend! (I could certainly use some of those!)

Blessings,

Julie
