Five Minute Friday – Safe

by | Feb 9, 2017 | Five Minute Friday

Five Minute Friday.

I’ve been a stranger to it for weeks. I’m back joining the ranks tonight of these amazing people who free-write for five minutes on a one-word prompt. What would you write for five minutes on the word SAFE?

Now’s your chance. Go for it! Either here in the comments below, on your own writing space, or on a scrap piece of paper on your kitchen table. We gather together at Kate’s to share and encourage. I invite you over there to read more.

Here we go!

–SAFE–

GO.

There are days I do not feel so safe.

Worries invade. Stresses appear. I let my mind go to places of fear.

There are also days I worry about the safety of my family.

I don’t always know why, but I do. Will my children (yes, even as they’re grown) be okay today? Will my husband be safe on the roads? How about our health? Sickness and diseases are everywhere. Will we stay healthy?

I assume I’m not the only one who worries about such things.

When these troublesome thoughts and stresses begin to overtake me, I do the only thing I know to do.

I pray.

Give all your cares to the Lord and He will give you strength. He will never let those who are right with Him be shaken. Psalm 55:22 NLV

When I give my cares to the One Who can handle them, it’s then when I feel safe.

It’s also then when I can trust my people are safe, and I then can rest in His safety.

I can lie down and sleep soundly because you, Lord, will keep me safe. Psalm 4:8 CEV

Friend, how safe are you feeling these days? There’s much in this world that’s unsettling. We may not be able to do much about these situations, but we can choose how we’ll walk through them. Let’s not walk through them alone.

May I encourage you to give each and every care over to God, and allow Him to take them, to deal with them, and to strengthen you? Allow Him to replace your worry with His never-ending peace.

STOP.

I wish I could say I have mastered the art of giving everything over to God immediately. I’m still a work in progress. But, what a difference it makes when I do.

Thanks for coming over today, friend. It’s always a joy to have you here.

Blessings!

Julie

Thank you for the Scriptures. I join you in your desire to master the art of giving everything over to God immediately. Like you, I’m still a work in progress. And it does make a difference when I trust Him. Joining you from FMF.

Hi Debbie! What would we do if we had to rely on ourselves?? I can’t begin to imagine. Let’s remind each other to trust Him often! Blessings!

My life’s become a bit frightening, and I take some comfort in the Latin adage ‘una salus victis nullam sperare salutem’…the only hope of the doomed is not to hope for safety.

It’s not as nihilistic as it may sound. I just recognize that I’m in the deep end, physically, and that hoping for a safe haven is futile. One may come – there may be a miracle – but meanwhile I can’t let a vain hope drain my resolve to carry on with honour and meaning.

Thanks, Andrew. I believe we are safe in the arms of Jesus, and someday He’ll carry me to true safety. There will be nothing like it. Until then, I continue to trust and give my cares over to Him. Praying God meets you in every moment today.

Oh yes! If only it were easy to hand things over – it should be – but it’s not. Praying for each of us to learn just how very safe God is, and to trust Him with our fears, failures and fragility! Great FMF

Julie, like you, I wish I could say I have mastered the art of coming to God immediately. Surely there is no safer place to be! But I am grateful I am learning and a lot quicker these days than I used to be. Always good to read your words!

Joanne, I guess we’re both making progress as we are learning to give our concerns to God a little quicker these days. I wonder if I’ll ever master it?? I’m thankful we can spur one another on in doing so. Thanks for sharing, friend!

I’m still a work in progress too. Oh and did you know the words “Do not be afraid” appear 365 times in the Bible? One for each day. I’m in the 62 spot this week.

Yes, that’s pretty amazing. I should find one each day and mark it. Good goal for me. Blessings, Tara! (Hope you’re feeling better too.)

Oh, I spend tons of time talking to God about keeping my people safe :). I’m learning to add–‘whatever that might be’ to those requests, though.

Hi Julie! You and I must be cut from the same cloth. Love this: “It’s also then when I can trust my people are safe, and I then can rest in His safety.” I can so understand your urgency to keep loved ones safe; I wrote this week about “Fear is a Bully.” Thank You, Father, that “Perfect love casts out fear.”

And I LOVE that verse: “I can lie down and sleep soundly because you, Lord, will keep me safe.” Psalm 4:8 CEV
    Have a great week!
